Glass’ pieces have been described as experimental, mechanical, and hypnotic - A balance between control and freedom, static and moving, simplicity and complexity. Underlining his use of contrapuntal texture, rhythm, and tonal ambiguity, the design plays on the primeval yet calculative spirit of his work.

FINAL CONCEPT
A pianist plays page 1 of ‘Metamorphosis I’ on a scanner bed. Employing an experienced pianist successfully captures the otherwise unnoticeable changes that may come from playing the expressive markings of the piece.
EXPERIMENTATION

Marks that represent the melodic lines of the different voices featured in the first minute of Act I Scene II of ‘Einstein on the Beach’ are superimposed to visualise how the piece works harmonically. Blue diagonal lines refer to a recurring choreographic motif in the opera.

Using mathematical equations to translate ‘Etude No.16’ into colours.

Experimenting with repetition and gradual changes on a New York City scene.
